Here to be Heard: The Story of the Slits is a riveting documentary about the world’s first all-girl punk band, formed in London in 1976. Drawing on stunning personal archives and interviews with key band members, the film tells the story of young women "hidden from history". Contemporaries of The Clash and The Sex Pistols, The Slits pioneered the musical movement "Punky Reggae" and inspired generations of artists, from Sonic Youth to Sleater Kinney. Our guest speaker at Cinema International, is the original drummer), Paloma will tell her story with the band as well as her mystical experiences and quest as a musician. "Madonna bow down! These are THE SLITS!" (Don Letts, former Slits manager). Sponsored by C.I., the Religious Studies Program, and the Women’s Faculty Caucus (MSU).
