*SPANISH FILM CLUB *

All films in the Spanish Film Club series were made possible with the support of Pragda, SPAIN Arts & Culture, and the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain.

In Spanish and Mandarin with English subtitles. N.R., 65 mins.

The heroine, Xiaobin (Xiaobin Zhang), who in real life inspired this movie, moves from China to Buenos Aires at age 18 to meet the parents she’s never known. They immigrated shortly after she was born to establish a new life. She knows that learning to speak Spanish is key to fitting in and getting a better quality of life. When she learns the conditional tense in Spanish, the movie takes off, depicting her speculations on what could happen. The film’s unusual perspective makes it distinctive as "it depicts the immigration experience through the process of mastering a language, and gaining the confidence that comes with it" (Glenn Kenny, NY Times 2017). “I think that in a film with real persons, their imagination and memory should have the same importance as ‘facts’” (Nele Wohlatz.) It received a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes.
